About Polperro
Polperro is a small fishing village on the South Cornwall Coast. The village is based around the River Pol and opens into a harbour popular with fishermen.
Fishing has always been a large part of village life. For many years Polperro was the centre of Pilchard fishing and preparation. by the 1960s, the large supplies of pilchard in the local area had diminished significantly leading to the end of this prosperous industry.
Fishing is still a large part of life in Polperro with 12 boats still based in the town. Their main catch consists of flat fish, scallops and crab.
